God is real - no really He is!

Stuff's happened in the last week to show me again that God actually is real - and for some reason He cares quite a lot about some obsecure little church in Brighton. Last week we found out that from the end of the month, we'd no longer be able to use the church building we had been meeting in for our Sunday afternoon (newly re-named) 'Friends and Family meeting'. That meant we had 3 weeks to find an alternative and work out how would could do Christmas events in our alternative venue. Argh! However - God showed how much He was in control of the situation. At a church meeting we unanimously decided to move into a school building that had been investigated in the past but been put aside as it was too expensive. It was still too expensive for us, but we decided to go ahead anyway. By the next morning - with a combination of the school lowering its fees and money just appearing - we had more than enough for the move. Hooray for God! So in two weeks time, we're moving into Dorthody Stringer school (a place that won't even let the Gideons in) and starting the first of three 'Christmas crafts wtithe Christmas message' afternoons. I'm looking forward to seeing how God is going to use us in this new location - especially as He blatantly put us there!!

Rubbish! Why would God bother to meddle in the minutiae of your church's finances yet leave millions to starve?! Get real! If god is exerting influence on such a ridiculous venture I would think "hold on, don't worry about about this, get on with something more important." There is no God. Religion is an evil waste of time and resources, serving only to divide and isolate people.

I take your point about why God answering prayer and providing in some ways but apparetnly not in others (ie people still starving) - I don't know why that is, all I know is we prayed - God answered. God is real, and He wants all os us to know Him. Ultimately we don't know that God is real because of answered prayer (but it helps to remind those who know Him), we know He is real because He showed Himself in Jesus, and through Jesus He showed how much He loves all of us - whether we are starving or have plenty, as Jesus died so that we can have a relationship with God. This is not religion - its a relationship with a living God.

Unrelated- you prayed, school was cheaper + there was money available. People pray that they can find a parking space, or that particular questions come up in an exam- when these come true is it thanks to God? Of course not.

All scientific tests of the power of prayer have shown it to be a waste of time and effort. There is no God.
And as for Jesus, tell me, what does it mean that he gave his son for us? I've never seen the relevence. Why would an omnipotent God require such a bizarre sacrifice- and if Jesus was also god, as you say, what on earth is this semi-suicide supposed to prove? Certainly not love for ME. Look at the world, read the newspapers, there is no evidence for a god, why would anyone want to believe in a secret god who apparently only appears to people who believe they are already in His gang. Plus the God in the christian bible is vengeful, spiteful, confused and plain cruel. You have to ignore most of the bible otherwise it is so full of contradictions, inconsistencies and barking mad dogma that it is totally ridiculous. How many christians would stone someone to death just for working on a sunday or being homosexual? Yet this is explicitely laid down in the bible. It says you studied science- how can you on one hand act in a rational way and on the other believe in totally irrational twaddle. Why study science when to your mind a totally correct answer to any scientific problem would be "because God made it so." That's not scientific. Analyse this: why are you a christian? My bet is that your parents are christians and brainwashed you. How about Hell? Seem like a good idea to you? So, god made a world and people, and said anyone who doesn't believe in me gets punished- not re-educated, not a bit of christian readjustment, oh no, burn in hell. How long for? Oh, eternity ought to do it. For crying out loud... wake up!

Anonymous - you raise some interesting points, however the comments page of my blog is not the forum to discuss them. These are the kind of issues we regularly discuss in Church in a Pub - if you live in Brighton please come along to Circus Circus (on Preston Circus) on Sundays from 7pm. If not - please go along to any local church that runs a Christianity Explored or Alpha course and discuss your views - you might be surprised at actually how logical the Christian faith is.
